Archaeology     

Meets Third Thursday

Details We have a new speaker for April, in Professor Jim Cheshire from Lincoln University, his speciality is in Coloured or 'Stained Glass' and recently gave a talk at Coddington Church. Following our visit to Southwell Minster where Kevin our guide explained about the Medieval and modern Glass it raised the awareness within the Group so we now have the opportunity to learn from an expert about the amazing Glass windows in our Churches.

Art Appreciation     

Meets 2nd Tuesday of each month*

Details The Art Appreciation group discusses various artists and topics each month, and, in the various sessions, covers different media used by artists- painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, etc...etc...etc... We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Newark Town Bowls Club (off London Road.)

Art for All     

Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesday

Details A lively, creative & friendly Group that works on art challenges using their own chosen mix of mediums, techniques, applicators, and scales. We meet at members' homes to share and discuss the images produced at home over the two-week period. In fair weather, we visit various venues to paint/sketch plein-air

Birdwatching     

Meets 3rd Tuesday of the month

Details We ramble through nature taking in the sights, sounds and smells of our countryside at our favourite nature reserves; as well as birds, we quite like flowers, and trees, and butterflies and… you get the picture.No prior knowledge required, but a sense of wonder is appreciated. If you enjoy getting out in the fresh air and socialising, usually with a nearby cafe, this is the group for you. We’re free range. After we meet up you can saunter off at your own pace, with whoever is going your way. The reserves usually offer a range of accessible routes.

Craft and Chatter     

Meets 3rd Tuesday

Details This is a group where we all help to organise different crafting activities for us all to try. These activities include making decorative objects by hand such as:- ceramics,fabric and textiles, flower craft, houseware, needlework, painting and paper crafts. However, we are always open to new ideas too!

Creative Writing     

Meets 3rd Wed
Normally starts 10:00 to 12:00
Details We meet to share our short stories and normally have refreshments before we read our stories to each other. We have constructive criticism and suggestions. We then normally write something off the cuff for 20 minutes and again share. We are a happy group and all have varying experiences of writing. We just enjoy the time together.

Disco Dancing     

Meets 2nd Wednesday every month

Details The next Disco Dance will be on Wednesday May 9th 2.30 till 4pm. Be there or be square!

Early Birds Dining     

Meets 4th Thursday of every month at 6pm
Normally starts 18:00 to 20:00
Details Come and join us for an early evening meal with good food and scintillating conversation. We meet on the fourth Thursday of the month at 18:00 at a chosen restaurant and spend the next couple of hours or so eating, drinking and generally setting the world to rights. Details This is a French Reading group. Tom takes members through set books to improve their understanding of the language

Friday Morning Coffee

Details An informal weekly gathering open to all. All the latest news, trivia, gossip, jokes, personal histories and opinions are reflected in the friendly conversation. This should be a 'must do' for new members as we have some of the most active group leaders and Committee members as frequent (coffee) drinkers.

Funtography     

Meets Last Friday of the month

Details Joan Would, Dave Jones, and Maggie George lead the Funtography group and aim to provide an enjoyable and relaxed approach to photography. No special kit is needed, just something that takes a decent photograph and the desire to enjoy what we do. Field trips regularly feature on the second Thursday of the month and we sometimes have ad hoc trips (weather permitting). Check your email or WhatsApp for details.

Gardening Interest

Details The aim of the group is to increase our gardening knowledge and share our love of gardening, gardens and the outdoors. We do this both by using the expertise within the group and by having external speakers where appropriate. The next meeting will be on 9th April.

General Meeting

Details This is our Newark & District all members monthly meeting. Everyone seated at talbles to facilitate conversation We have an engaging speaker followed by coffee/tea/cakes. A small door fee of £2.00 is charged to cover the activities and either cash or debit/credit card is accepted.

IT Support

Details One-on-one help is offered to anyone desiring how to better use their mobile phones,tablets laptops and desktops. Questions of all kinds are welcome, even if answers are not the tip of our tongues. Whether e-mails, banking, on-line purchasing, etc. we can try to help. The meeting can either be by Zoom or in person at, say, a coffee shop. The vibe is casual and help is one-on-one. Contact Julea to set something up that good that works for of you.

Knit and Natter

Details KNIT & NATTER GROUP The “Knit & Natter Group” is a friendly group of people enjoying a variety of skills, which we are happy to share with each other. This group is not just for knitters, anyone with an interest in crochet, wool craft, spinning or any other woolly stuff, why not come along and share your interest. You don’t need to be an expert, all levels of proficiency welcome. Whilst this is not strictly a teaching group members are always more than happy to share their skills with each other. We look forward to welcoming new members. So why not join us and make new friends, extend your skills and add to the general fun and hub-hub.

Let's Go _____ Together

Details A great way to find company for an activity that you may wish to attend, and to receive suggestions on things you may be interested in going to. Examples included the movies, concerts, museums, etc. After joining this group you will be added to the 'Lets Go Out' group on WhatsApp. Once added, everybody in the group can see what everyone else has written/posted. Line Dancing

Details Each meeting group members learn new dances and revise old ones. It’s a very light hearted fun way of getting some exercise - and who cares if you go wrong! Come along and make as many mistakes as the rest of us do. Meetings are a St Giles’ Church Hall Balderton, 10am till 11:30. On the fourth Thursdays of each month.

Mah Jong

Model Making     

Meets 4th Thursday each month - 2pm to 4pm
Normally starts 14:00 to 16:00
Details The Model Group welcomes a diverse range of modeling interests, from constructing model railway layouts, through Airfix kits to painting Warhammer figures and anything in between. All levels of experience are welcome. The tools used are simple hand ones. Although not intended as a formal teaching group learning new skills will be a natural consequence of being in the company of those with greater skill or wider experience.

Murder Mystery Books

Details For those who enjoy reading murder mysteries! We read many different authors and mystery genres as possible from group members suggestions. Pub Lunch Quiz One

Details A group for people who want to enjoy a pub lunch combined with a purely-for-fun quiz. No prizes given, just the pleasure of pitting your wits against like-minded companions. Play on your own or team up with a partner/s. The venue will be different each month & members of the group will be notified beforehand, together with an email of the pub's menu as meals have to be pre-selected the week before.

Recorder Playing

Details Recorder Group meets on 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month. There are 15 members, and we play descant, treble, tenor and bass recorders. We performed at the Christmas Tree festival, together with Retford U3A. At present we are practising towards a playing day in May with our Retford friends and also the West Wolds U3A group.

Science

Details Our Science group presents TED and other Science video talk(s) each month and then opens the room for discussion. With the TED talks being our typical format, we then have periodic guest in-person speakers to mix things up. Day: 2nd Thursday of the Month Time: 2:00 pm Place: YMCA Conference room on the first floor (Lift is available) There is a coffee shop on-site. Meeting fee: £2.50 to cover this great place to meet.

Singing for Fun

Details Everyone is very welcome to come and sing. We sing a range of songs, from musical shows, traditional, songs from the past, and rounds.

Social Sewing     

Meets 4th Thursday of every month

Details This is a social sewing group for all sewing enthusiasts including hand, machine, quilting, embroidery, dressmakers, soft furnishings, toys, and textile artists. Members bring their own project to work on and, if necessary, a machine. These aren't intended to be formal teaching sessions - just a group of like-minded people, sharing skills, ideas, and knowledge while having fun. Need to arrange PAT testing of the sewing machines by Melissa Kirk at the Air Ambulance Charity - 01636 701204. She will do this in return for a donation to the charity

Tai Chi

Ukulele

Details What do we do? We enjoy ourselves. This is an easy going Group who play a range of mostly familiar tunes reading words and chords from a projector, a personal tablet or even paper music on a stand. Some members perform for outside organisations (gigs), often to Care Homes or Charitable bodies.

Walking     

Meets 2nd Monday 10:00am

Details We meet on the Second Monday of each month at 10:00 unless otherwise notified in the Newsletter. Everyone is welcome just turn up at the start, no need to ring or email to confirm attendance or book a place. All the walks are between 3 and 6 miles long and are usually easy walking. Each month the walk is lead by a different member of the group which makes the walks varied both in length and terrain but always interesting.
