Meets 4th Monday
Venue Wheatsheaf Inn - map

Details Our meetings are very friendly and informal and we have always had good group participation. We will generally agree amongst ourselves which area of antiques and collectables we would like to find out more about, then we research the chosen subjects and discuss them at our monthly meetings. Most of our members are keen collectors and more than willing to bring along their treasures to share with us which means we very often have an interesting display from which we can try to identify the makers markings, or, as in some cases, suggest what the said item may be.

Details The Hikers provide longer walks than those organized by the Ramblers group and have joint walks in collaboration with Arnold U3A. Our walks usually last all day, covering a distance of 10 to 13 miles. These can be circular or linear walks e.g. we completed the full Robin Hood Way walk, which is 104 miles. We did this in 10 sections, catching buses and trams to get us to the start and from the finish of each section whenever practicable. Also, we have joined with other U3As to complete the Chesterfield Canal Walk. Our members take it in turns to plan and recce our monthly walks that are normally circular routes in interesting local countryside. We welcome new members to the Group.

Mah-Jong

Meets 1st & 3rd Wednesday
Venue Members homes
Contact Sandra san.giles@live.co.uk
Details Our group is full at the moment, but there is a waiting list for you to show your interest. Mahjong is a game that originated in China, normally played by four players (but three can play) at a square table. It is a game of skill and strategy and involves a certain degree of chance. Although it can be a gambling game, we play purely for fun! The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols and is started by building the 'great wall of China', discarding tiles and collecting sets until players complete a legal hand. By the end of the first session, you won't know it all, but you will know how to play and to form a basic Mahjong hand.
