Badminton

Bellringing

Details We all love the sound of the Church bells, and now you have the chance to become one of the few to learn the techniques and methods involved in bellringing, as well as learn some of the history behind this centuries-old skill. This is a short course of 10 consecutive week days. Courses are suitable for 3-6 people max, and additional courses may be scheduled as interest permits, so get your name on our waiting list for the next course.

Birders

Details The group will have a number of visits to birding sites. Some of these will be fairly local and others further afield The group is primarily aimed at new bird watchers to improve their knowledge and share experiences,but more experienced birders will be most welcome also. You will require some mobility for outdoor locations, otherwise everyone is welcome. It is worth noting that some locations are suitable for mobility scooters and wheelchairs, and further information is available on their web sites. Carpet Bowls

Details Short mat bowls takes place in Digby village Hall on the first and third Thursday of the month. Plenty of parking at the rear of the hall. We usually have 2 mats and play in teams of 2 to six with a tea break at half time. We play for fun and exercise but do keep score as a means of improving our game.

Church Visiting

Details We go to 2 different churches on the 2nd Tuesday March to September and look at Church architecture, have a talk about the Church's history and also the village; church wardens usually do the talk. We have lunch at a local pub.

Details This group is aimed at Crafts people at all levels, some having little or no knowledge or skills and some experienced in particular crafts who are keen to share what they know. We are not a knit and natter group, but a group of like -minded folk all keen to try and learn something new at each meeting. This group will close on 28th August if no new leader can be found.

Details We meet via Zoom. We purchase books from Amazon for 99p or less and read via the Kindle App which is available for all platforms (ipad, laptop, phone, tablet PC). Each member selects 2 books, sends the details to the group leader who during the meeting randomly selects a book.

Discussion - Philosophy

Details This group is a forum for philosophical discussions. These may be on aspects of theoretical or practical philosophy on particular philosophers (living or dead), on topics or themes from the history of philosophy, or on the application of philosophical thinking to everyday problems. Discussions are lead by group members on topics of particular interest to them.

Early Music

Details The Early Music Group plays recordings of music of ancient: Greece, Rome and Byzantium from about 500 BC and European music and music of the European Diaspora from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Periods up to around 1809 using all forms of audio-visual reproduction. More recently we have also presented programmes of recorded music that charts the influence of Classical Music on 19th Century Romantic Music and 20th Century Modern Music. We also occasionally arrange visits to local concerts and even produced a concert of Medieval Music.

Reading 2

Details TReading group 2 meets on the 4th Friday of every month with the exception of December. It is a very informal meeting and we discuss the book which is sent to us by the library. We pay an annual subscription for this service. Previously, we were able to choose our books but since covid we have to read whatever the library decides to send us which has resulted in a widening of horizons and sometimes reading books which are outside our comfort zone. We rate the books from 1-5 and then at the end of the year discuss which should be the ‘book of the year’.

Reading 3

Details We meet once a month to discuss a book provided by the library. Books are chosen once a year by group members from the library's Reading Groups Collection. Group member's pay 50p a meeting to cover the annual library reading group subscription. Unfortunately, due to lack of space , this venue is not suitable for wheelchairs

Singing For Pleasure

Details We have had our new pianist, s4p member Marian Leetch, for over a year now, plus our nearly-new piano and myself as Group Leader. It is different but just as much fun and we still only charge £2.00 per session to cover the rent of the hall and tea/ coffee and bisquits. Music is provided and no audition is necessary, just come and sing! It's good for you! ***PLEASE NOTE: NEXT MEETINGS: APRIL 19th*** MAY 3rd

Spanish - Beginners

Details New course (restarting 11 January) for beginner's using Pasos 1 Spanish course book. Lessons are fortnightly and there is homework between lessons. All learning materials provided. You only need a notepad and pen. Course length approx 12 months.

Details This group is for those that have at least an intermediate level of Spanish, and is intended to improve conversation skills. The atmosphere is very informal and we help each other if we struggle to find the right words! Conversations are normally free-flowing, but occasionally we have a topic to start us off or we relate a news item/anecdote. You are also welcome if you prefer just to listen.

Details This course of lessons started in January 2023, but it is still possible to join if you already know a little Spanish. We use a variety of activities to make learning fun. Aimed at people wanting to learn beyond tourist phrases. For enquiries from complete beginners, please see the NEW 'Spanish - Beginners' lessons group. NOTE: as from week commencing 18 March 2024, lessons will be on MONDAY afternoons instead of Tuesday.

Stamp Collecting

Details Our purpose is to exchange information and stamps, sort through acquired boxes of stamps and prepare for exhibitions. Occasional visits to large Stamp Fairs - usually York.

Tenpin Bowling

Details This is a fun session of tenpin bowling where the group members play two games for £10. Virtually Photography

Details This is a virtual photography group set up during lockdown that has carried on to become a supportive and fun group for enthusiastic amateur photographers. We have a challenge set monthly to complete and create and sell a calendar from our own pictures most years. All members must be able to create digital images and use our private Facebook page. Walking - Shorter Walks

Details Shorter walks will mainly be circular walks of approximately 5 miles across fields, footpaths, stiles and tracks. They are countryside walks and may be muddy especially in Winter. We aim to walk a mile in approximately 22-25 minutes. Walking boots and outdoor clothes are needed. Please bring a snack and a drink for a midway break.

Walking Netball

Details Walking Netball is netball, but at a slower pace. Sessions are full of fun, laughter and camaraderie and all are welcome. You do not have to be super-fit to enjoy playing; running or jumping is not allowed. Emphasis is on fun. All welcome - £4 per session
